Microban Products Company received its commercial start as Clinitex Corporation, which was founded by Glenn Cueman, Barnell Ramsey, and Henry Richbourg. Clinitex was a producer of orthopedic devices and specialty medical products many of which incorporated the benefits of Microban® antimicrobial product protection. The three entrepreneurs quickly began to realize that the benefits of Microban® antimicrobial product protection extended beyond medical devices to everyday consumer products. To pursue these commercial opportunities Microban Products Company was founded in 1987.
Microban (Americas), which is headquartered near Charlotte, N.C., provides antimicrobial protection for a broad array of products. Current medical partners include Medwrap (wound dressings), Microtek (surgical incise drapes), and Phoenix Medical (medical gloves). Microban® antimicrobial product protection is also available in wallcoverings, caulk, cutting boards, kitchen utensils, bathroom surfaces, footwear, and textiles. The company has developed a unique technology, which is based on the active ingredient found in today's popular antibacterial soaps, shampoos, and deodorants. Microban Products Company has developed the proprietary technology to make these ingredients part of the solid product's composition.
